Prior to X-Plane 7.10 the autopilot had a distinct switch to control which radio was used - Nav1 or Nav2.
Now the dataref sim/cockpit/switches/HSI_selector decides which source (nav1, nav2, or FMS/GPS) the autopilot follows for either the HNAV or VNAV functions.
